In selecting the right keyword meta tags for your site, I find it useful to answer the following questions:
- What is your primary industry or product category?
- What problem or market need does your company attempt to solve or satisfy?
- Are you marketing to your local area, nationwide, or internationally?
- Are there any other products or services on the web that are similar to yours?
- Who are your key competitors?
When you build the keyword META TAG, order the keywords in order of importance, putting the most important keywords at the beginning of the tag. Toward the end of the tag, I often place a word or phrase which I can later use to test whether or not my web site has been indexed. For example, if I place my full name in the meta tags, I can do a web search on my name and see what sites come up. This is also helpful, since it shows me what other web sites on the
Internet have references to either me or my web site.
Since there is a limit to the number of keywords which some search engines will pick up, it's important to select keywords that are both relevant and that you have a possibility of being search or found on. This is where Keyword Analysis comes in.

If you have access to your web stats, you can also review your key search terms to see which keywords you are already being found on, and if they are appropriate, consider emphasizing them on your site.
