What does it cost to make a
web site?
After we first meet with you and learn what
you'd like to include on your site, we will present you with a detailed proposal, with fees clearly stated. Naturally,
fees for building a web site vary depending upon the
size of the site and features built into the site. But in general,
standard web site development costs begin at about $500.
Where will my web site be located after
Yalia creates it?
After your web site is created on our server, it will be uploaded, or put onto
a host computer of your choice. Host computers (also called servers)
are run by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), small hosting companies,
or individuals who have computers dedicated solely to hosting
web sites. These host computers are all connected to the Internet
so that anyone perusing the Internet will be able to view your
site.
What does it cost to host my web
site?
There is usually a monthly charge for hosting
a web site. Hosting fees can range from $5 to $100 per month,
depending on your host provider and what features you have
on your site. Fees are paid directly to the hosting company,
not to Yalia.
Do I need to find someone to host
my web site?
If you haven't yet selected a hosting provider,
we will be happy to recommend a company to host your web site.
We have several wonderful companies with whom we work regularly,
so we will make specific recommendations according to your
needs.

What is a domain name and do I need
one?
Every web site has an address on the Internet,
which is called the URL (Uniform Resource Locator). For example,
our URL is http://www.yalia.com.
A URL is made up of the domain name ("yalia") and
an extension (".com"). Other extensions include:
.net, .org, .biz, .us, .gov, and .edu. Read our article
on naming here.
AllWhois
has a domain lookup function you can use to see who owns a
particular domain name if it has already been registered.
If you need assistance finding a domain
name for your business, Yalia Technology Design can help you
with the process. If you would prefer to do it yourself, select
any domain registrar from the list below and using their lookup
bx to see if the name you want is available. If you're having
trouble finding an available domain name for your business,
there are some tools online that you can use to help find
available names for your business. These include NameSpin
(available at several registrars), Go
Daddy's built-in "see more names" function,
and Name Droppers.
Once you know that the domain name you want
is available, you must purchase it in order to use it.
However, we recommend that you do not purchase the name until
we've chosen a host for your site. This is because the host
can often obtain the name for you, thereby eliminating the
cost of transferring the name to the host. A domain name usually
costs between $8 and $40 a year, depending on who you register
it through.
Since domain registration is a commodity
product, we recommend registering your domain name through
a low cost provider. Network Solutions (Verio) and Register.com
both charge $35 per year per domain, while there are hundreds
of other companies who will register your doain name for as
little at $6 per year. We personally recommend GoDaddy for
our clients, but here is a list of domain registrars who you
might want to use for your domain registration needs.
